50 years of Flamingo

Flamingo celebrates 50th anniversary with brand new e-shop

This year, Flamingo will have 50 candles on its birthday cake. Over those 50 years, we have grown from a local bird shop into an international wholesaler with 8500 accessories and snacks for dogs, cats, rodents, birds, chickens, fish, and reptiles. We want to continue this growth with our brand new B2B e-shop!

Flamingo through the years

We haven’t always been a wholesaler. In 1972, we started as a bird dealer in Geel. In 1980, we made the step into bird accessories. Another five years later and the range was gradually growing to include other animals such as cats and dogs. In 1993, Erwin Van Tendeloo took over Flamingo from his father, and we started our export activities. It is how we became an international company. We have been growing steadily ever since, and we are now on the map in no less than 55 countries. Today, as many as 175 employees put their very best efforts into helping us grow.

Strong together

Flamingo is growing. Of course, this growth is due to the enthusiastic staff: the force behind our growth. That is why we like to reward our employees regularly; with treats, flexible working hours, the option to lease an electric bicycle, lots of fringe benefits, (environmentally friendly) company cars, etc. And our employees' pets don't want for anything either.

In two years’ time, we grew from 123 to 175 employees, and there are plenty of open vacancies for those who would like to join the Flamingo family.

Further strides in digitisation process

Digitisation was already high on the agenda, but the coronavirus meant everything gained momentum. Last year, we launched our new website with online catalogue and tips for pet owners. We didn’t forget our professional customers either. From pet shop to wholesaler or groomer: from now on, our customers can shop to their heart’s content in a brand new, easy-to-use B2B shop!

We will focus even more in digitisation over the coming months and years. For example, we are bursting with plans for enhancing the functionalities of the website and the B2B e-shop.
