If you put the litter box in the living room or kitchen, you should go for a litter box that is dust-free, absorbs odours very well, smells good and doesn't stick to the paws. If your litter box is in the storage room or garage, odour and dust are less important and you can choose for e.g. environmentally-friendly wood pellets.
BENTONITE – This type of cat litter is highly absorbent and clumping, which makes it easy and economical to use. The granules are also gentle to your cat’s paws. Available in different scents: natural, baby powder, lemongrass and lavender.
KITTEN - bentonite cat litter with natural herbs that encourages kittens to urinate in the right place.
SILICA – This cat litter made from natural raw materials has a low-dust formula and is therefore ideal for people and cats with allergies. Neutralises bad odours and absorbs urine very quickly. Doesn’t clump, but you can see which granules you need to scoop out as they turn yellow.
BLEND – Cat litter made of bentonite with added silica. Clumps, absorbs very quickly and is pleasantly light. The addition of silica crystals strongly neutralises unpleasant odours and reduces dust formation.
WOOD PELLETS - Cat litter made of natural wood fibres and sawdust. Is 99% dust-free with very good moisture/odour absorption. The natural wood smell neutralises unpleasant odours. Biodegradable and can be disposed of in the organic waste bin. Dries quickly and doesn’t stick to paws or hair, which makes it also ideal for long-haired cats.
An indoor cat will always do his or her business inside a litter box. In that case a low maintenance cat litter is recommended. If your cat spends a lot of time outside, you may have to clean the litter box less often and you can choose one that is less maintenance-friendly, but may last longer, such as wood pellets or silica.
How often you should change the litter depends among others on the type of cat litter, the number of cats you have, whether they are indoor or outdoor cats and the number of litter boxes (from once every 4 days to once every 2 weeks). TIP: Keep unpleasant smells away for longer with a cat litter deo.
